Before we met, you and I were halves unjoined except in the wide rivers of our minds. We were each other’s distant shore, the opposite wings of a bird, the other half of a seashell. We did not know the other then, did not know our determination to keep alive the cry of one riverbank to the other. We were apart, yet connected in our ignorance of each other, like two apples sharing a common tree. Remember? I knew you existed long before you understood my desire to join my freedom to yours. Our paths collided long enough for our indecision to be swallowed up by the greater need of love. When you came to me, the sun surged towards the earth and moon escaped from darkness to bless the union of two spirits, so alike that the creator had designed them for life’s endless circle. Beloved partner, keeper of my heart’s odd secrets, clothed in summer blossoms so the icy hand of winter never touches us. I thank your patience. Our joining is like a tree to earth, a cloud to sky and even more. We are the reason the world can laugh on its battlefields and rise from the ashes of its selfishness to hear me say, in this time, this place, this way – I loved you best of all. (author unknown)

about

This album is a collection of mainly-instrumental tracks that I wrote and recorded from around 2002 to 2012, when I got back into making music after a long time away. I bought a PC and a copy of Steinberg's Cubasis and tried to put together some ideas that came out of playing with samples and midi step input for the first time. I've now decided to give the tracks away for free (or pay what you want!) as most of them have already appeared on various music hosting sites or netlabels over the years.

Some of the tracks have been used in surfing movies, such as O'Neill's Deep Blue Open (2005), and some have had great reviews and feedback on various "unsigned" sites such as the now long-departed Electromancer and unsignedbandweb. The former introduced me to the art of remixing with Croydon Library (Dewey Decimal Transcendental Mix), and led me on to doing official remixes for the likes of Pitch Black, Banco de Gaia, and Tom Bailey's International Observer.

All tracks are as they were originally recorded, with varying sound levels and no mastering.

I’m Tim Blackburn, musician and remixer from the UK. I’ve gone back to my original synthpop roots, after having worked with Tom Bailey (Thompson Twins) on a remix of his track Popcorn Slavery (under his International Observer guise) and remixed other artists and bands, including Michael Harding (ex-1000 Mexicans) and Banco de Gaia. ... more
